Semiparametrically Efficient Inference Based on Signed Ranks in Symmetric Independent Component Models

چکیده
We consider semiparametric location-scatter models for which the p-variate observation is obtained as X = ΛZ + µ, where µ is a p-vector, Λ is a full-rank p × p matrix, and the (unobserved) random p-vector Z has marginals that are centered and mutually independent but are otherwise unspecified. As in blind source separation and independent component analysis (ICA), the parameter of interest throughout the paper is Λ. On the basis of n i.i.d. copies of X, we develop, under a symmetry assumption on Z, signed-rank one-sample testing and estimation procedures for Λ. The proposed procedures enjoy all usual nice properties of rank procedures. Besides, we exploit the uniform local and asymptotic normality (ULAN) of the model to define signed-rank procedures that are semiparametrically efficient under correctly specified densities. Yet, as usual in rank-based inference , the proposed procedures remain valid (correct asymptotic size under the null, for hypothesis testing, and root-n consistency, for 1 2 ILMONEN AND PAINDAVEINE point estimation) under a very broad range of densities. We derive the asymptotic properties of the proposed procedures and investigate their finite-sample behavior through simulations.

Semiparametrically Efficient Rank - Based Inference for Shape Ii . Optimal R - Estimation of Shape
A class of R-estimators based on the concepts of multivariate signed ranks and the optimal rank-based tests developed in Hallin and Paindaveine [Ann. Statist. 34 (2006)] is proposed for the estimation of the shape matrix of an elliptical distribution. These R-estimators are root-n consistent under any radial density g, without any moment assumptions, and semiparametrically efficient at some pre...
متن کاملEstimation in ARMA models based on signed ranks
In this paper we develop an asymptotic theory for estimation based on signed ranks in the ARMA model when the innovation density is symmetrical. We provide two classes of estimators and we establish their asymptotic normality with the help of the asymptotic properties for serial signed rank statistics. Finally, we compare our procedure to the one of least-squares, and we illustrate the performa...
متن کاملEfficient Testing and Estimation in Two Lehmann Alternatives to Symmetry-at-zero Models
We consider two variations on a Lehmann alternatives to symmetry-at-zero semiparametric model, with a real parameter θ quantifying skewness and a symmetric-at-0 distribution as a nuisance function. We show that a test of symmetry based on the signed logrank statistic (Hall [2011]) is asymptotically efficient in these models, derive its properties under local alternatives and present efficiency ...
متن کاملSigned-rank tests for location in the symmetric independent component model
The so-called independent component (IC) model states that the observed p-vectorX is generated via X = ΛZ + μ, where μ is a p-vector, Λ is a full-rank matrix, and the centered random vector Z has independent marginals. We consider the problem of testing the null hypothesis H0 : μ = μ0, where μ0 is a fixed p-vector, on the basis of i.i.d. observations X1, . . . ,Xn generated by the symmetric ver...
متن کاملInference in the Symmetric Location Model: an Empirical Likelihood Approach
An empirical likelihood approach with an increasing number of estimated constraints is developed for inference in the symmetric location model. We obtain a Wilks’ Theorem for the resulting empirical likelihood and uniform local asymptotic normality. The former is used to obtain confidence regions and tests for the center of symmetry. The latter is used to show that the maximum empirical likelih...
